Nitrogen Management Calculators
Corn Nitrogen Rate Calculator
Calculate economic return to N application with different nitrogen and corn prices and to find profitable N rates directly from recent N rate research data.
How Much Fertilizer Do I Need?
Calculate how much fertilizer you need based on your target application rate. Find the N-P-K numbers on your fertilizer bag (example: 20-10-10) and enter them below along with your target nutrient rate.
Your Fertilizer Requirements:
Actual Nutrients Applied (per 1000 sq ft)
Understanding Your Results
This calculation shows how much fertilizer you need to achieve your target nutrient application rate. The "Actual Nutrients Applied" section shows all three nutrients (N-P-K) you'll be applying at this rate.
Important: Always apply fertilizer evenly and follow label instructions. Consider soil testing to determine your actual nutrient needs.
These are estimates for planning purposes. Consult with your local agronomist or extension office for personalized recommendations.
What Am I Losing Into My Tile Water?
If you use tile water to evaluate your nitrogen loss, you can actually find your loss per acre by using this formula:
Concentration × Tile Flow ÷ Drainage Area = lbs. of N per acre being lost
Your Result:
What do your results mean?
These results are not precise measuring tools, but a resource for estimations. How can you keep more nitrogen where you need it?
Applying nitrogen as close to the time it's needed at adequate rates helps reduce nitrogen loss. Planting foraging / scavenging cover crops helps reclaim excess nitrogen and keep it for the next crop.
Please use this estimation for informational purposes. Reach out to your personal crop advisor for more information and detailed plans of action.
